About Cambodia
Cambodia is predominantly a rural country, and is home to the most ethnically and religiously homogenous populations in Southeast Asia. After going through five name changes, today the country is known as the Kingdom of Cambodia. Situated in the southwest of the Indochinese peninsula, the total land area of Cambodia is around 181,035 km2. Bordered to the west by Thailand, to the north by Laos and to the east by Vietnam and to the south by the Gulf of Thailand. Cambodia boasts a rich history and vibrant culture that attracts tourists and historians alike. Although the country's recorded history dates back to 2,500 years, archaeological data has revealed that the area was inhabited by human beings at least 40,000 years ago. Theravada Buddhism is the prevailing official religion in Cambodia and approximately ninety percent of the population is Buddhist. Apart from the distinctive geographical features, with iconic landmarks such as the Angkor Wat temple complex and the bustling Phnom Penh city, Cambodia offers a diverse array of experiences for travelers.
Climate
Cambodia is blessed with one of Asia's tropical weather systems. The country has two distinct weather seasons. The northeast monsoon season runs from December through April. It brings variable cloudiness, infrequent precipitation, and lower humidity. You can expect sunny and dry weather, especially in the early months of January and February. The southwest monsoon runs from May until September. It brings the heaviest rainfall, generally in August and September. Average temperatures range from 24 0C (in the cooler months of November and December) to 35 0C (in the hottest time of the year from March until June). Annual precipitation varies considerably throughout the country, from more than 5,000 mm on the seaward slopes of the southwestern highlands to about 1,270‒1,400 mm in the central lowland region. You can travel in Cambodia all year round. The best time to visit Cambodia is during the dry season, which runs from October to April.
